How do I keep visitors out of my blog admin area?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion from one of my Blogging 101 students:
I visited my blog URL ( http://myusername.wordpress.com) it takes me to my blog but allows me into the administration dashboard of my blog. How do I prevent visitors from getting into that?
Answer:
If you mean that it let’s you see the admin login area allowing you into the Dashboard, that’s because you have saved your login information (your probably checked the “Remember Me” option) in your browser when you first logged into the wp-admin page. That will only happen from your machine. Your visitors should not see it. Try your URL from a different machine and you’ll see what I mean.
How do I direct someone to my blog?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion from one of my Blogging 101 students today:
Answer:
You can give them the URL (Web address) for the blog.
If you create a Blogger account it would be:
http://yourusername.blogspot.com
and for WordPress account it would be:
http://yourusername.wordpress.com
where “username” would be the username you used to setup the account.
If you have a domain name, e,g, yourdomain.com, you can set it up and point it to the blog so users can go to www.yourdomainname.com and visit your blog.
If you blog is hosted on it’s own server (eg. like HostGator) you can use your domain name for the site, www.yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com/blog or any combination you like around the domain name, AND you can have all standard Web site features included such as full domain e-mail accounts (anything@yourdomain.com), message boards, etc.
Microsoft PowerPoint .pps vs. .ppt files
Posted by: | CommentsMicrosoft PowerPoint has two main file types, .ppt and .pps. When you save a presentation file in Microsoft PowerPoint, the default file extension is .ppt. This is the file format you open when you wish to edit the presentation in PowerPoint. If you would like the file to open in presentation or “show” mode, you can save the file with a .pps extension (PowerPoint show).
When you d0uble-click on .ppt file, it will open that file in Edit mode in PowerPoint with all of the menus and commands available to you. When you double-click on a .pps file, it will open in presentation (play or “show”) mode and you will not see the PowerPoint program or menus. When the presentation finishes (or you manually exit by pressing Escape key), PowerPoint also quits.
You can convert a PowerPoint file from a .ppt to a .pps in either of two ways:
- Simply rename the file extension in from .ppt to .pps or
- With the file open in PowerPoint, choose File -> Save As -> from the “Save as type” box select PowerPoint Show (*.pps. ) and click “Save” button.
To change a .pps back to a .ppt file, you can reverse option #1 above and selecting “Presentation (.ppt)” in option #2.
